Dear friend of NOVA,

the Netherlands Research School for Astronomy,

 

A little over 25 years ago this year, NOVA began as a close collaboration between the university astronomy institutes in the Netherlands. In those 25 years, what started as a 5-year project has grown into a strong and permanent alliance. Working closely together has brought great benefits, as evidenced by the many scientific discoveries, achievements in instrument development and the reach of our public education programme.

 

It is our great pleasure to invite you to celebrate 25 years of NOVA with us. We look forward to sharing the many great stories gathered on the way, but also to look forward to the future together.

 

This celebration will take place on the 12th and 13th of december, in the Hague, and consists of two parts: For the scientifically interested, a two-day symposium will feature talks on NOVA’s successes during its vibrant history so far: science breakthroughs, technical feats, broad impact, and path to the future discoveries. Topics will include the impact of NOVA on our understanding of black holes at all scales, the molecular complexity of the Universe, and the formation and evolution of planets, stars, galaxies, and the Universe itself over cosmic time. The symposium takes place at the World Forum The Hague.

 

On the evening of the 12th, a more festive event will take place at the Omniversum planetarium, with an immersive show that showcases NOVA and our astronomical discoveries.
