Evaluation NOVA & 4 University Astronomy Institutes - Community Day

The time has come again for the evaluation of NOVA and the four university astronomy institutes, which last took place in 2016. From Sunday the 22nd till the Wednesday the 25th of January a Peer Review Committee, consisting of eminent international astronomers and other external experts, will visit us in Groningen. There they will be provided a deep insight into how we have been doing, and what our plans are for the future.

As part of the visit, we have planned a NOVA Community Day on the Monday, so the 23rd of January. During the morning, a series of plenary presentations will give a general overview of NOVA, results from the three NOVA research networks, highlights from the instrumentation and outreach programs and on our societal relevance. In the evening we will have a walking diner combined with a poster session and an exhibition of some of our instrumentation developments.

The NOVA Community Day is organised at a beautiful venue, the Forum, in Groningen: https://forum.nl. On Monday the 23rd, doors open at 9:30 and the program starts at 10:00.

Note that the afternoons of Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th are dedicated to sessions of the PRC with the individual institutes, with Nijmegen and Leiden going first on Monday, and Amsterdam and Groningen following on Tuesday. Some of you may have already been asked by your institute directors to participate in these sessions. To bridge the time from the NOVA plenary session on Monday morning till the diner, the Kapteyn institute in Groningen is organizing an interesting and entertaining program at the DOT planetarium:

  • 14:30 - 15:45: Planetarium show
  • 15:45 - 16:15: Tea
  • 16:15 - 17:00: Heino Falcke + the Black Hole First Picture film
